If you ever attended a business conference, you will know from experience that packing for such an event is very different from packing for your regular holiday trip. In this blog post, I want to talk about five products that I would not necessarily take with me on vacation, but that turned out to be real life savers on business trips 🙂
- 1. The nail polish you are currently wearing
Since attending a conference always includes lots of shaking hands, a fresh manicure is a must in my eyes. Rather than just applying a quick and wonky coat of nail polish on the train or plane, I usually take the time to do a proper manicure including a base coat, two layers of polish and a thick layer of a good top coat the night before I travel. Stick to tried and tested products and don’t experiment with new formulas on such occasions. I promise you that spending a bit more time in advance will eventually pay off, because your nails are not going to chip badly throughout the conference. Sadly, even the best manicure will show tipwear after a few days, and the last thing you’ll have time for is to completely redo your nails! Therefore, make sure to take the polish you are wearing (or at least a nail file) on your trip and to carry it in your handbag at all times, so that you can do a quick touch-up whenever you need to. At a pinch, three minutes of spare time and the conference center bathroom will save you the embarassement of having to give your speech with a chipped manicure.
- 2. An itch-relieving body moisturizer of your choice
Getting into a perfectly made hotel bed certainly counts among my favourite parts of the whole business trip experience. The industrial strength detergents however don’t seem to agree with my skin, which is why I always take my own moisturizer instead of relying on the freebee you are usually provided with in your hotel bathroom. Read my review on La Roche-Posay’s Iso-Urea Lait Lissant if you want to find out about a moisturizer that will put an end to itchy skin once and for all.
- 3. Targeted face masks
Business trips entail traveling, lack of sleep, air conditioning and sometimes even a change of climate: All these factors combined might be a bit too much for your skin. Since you certainly want to look and feel your best during a conference, try to anticipate what your skin might need and which products could counteract the damage. I always find masks the most helpful option, because they show the biggest effect in the least amount of time. If your trip implies air conditioning and/or traveling on a plane or train, take a moisturizing face mask with hyaluronic acid for the instant plumping effect; if you know you won’t be getting a lot of sleep, opt for a reviving product with caffeine or a good depuffing eye mask etc. You know best how your skin might react to a change of environment: Just make sure you are prepared and have the right tricks (aka masks) up your sleeve 🙂
- 4. A spot fighter
You just have to put one and one together to know that business conferences (including constant stress, eating out, alcohol and lack of sleep) equal pesky spots even for those of us whose skin isn’t normally acne prone. Again, anticipation is key: Bring a tried and trusted break-out fighter like La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo to kill off the troublemaker ASAP.
- 5. Beauty sleep essentials
In my opinion, nothing affects your looks more than lack of sleep. Since short nights might be inevitable to a certain degree, make sure that the few hours of sleep you getting are well spent. I could never travel without my eye mask and ear plugs to cancel out noise and light that might wake me up unnecessarily early or prevent me from falling asleep in the first place. If you find it hard to unwind and get your thoughts off the discussions of the day or the presentation you’ll have to do the next morning, I recommend bringing a relaxing body spray like Aveda’s or any soothing aromatherapeutic product you trust. These little gadgets will help you to relax, sleep tight and get in your beauty rest even after the most eventful of dayszzZZZzzzZzz 🙂
I hope these tips will contribute to making your next business trip a more relaxed experience without unforeseen beauty mishaps. Let me know in the comments below what products you rely on when attending a conference 🙂
